The Next Great American Homes™

Innovation for a Changing World™

The Next Great American Home is more than a single building. Instead, it is a movement that combines existing innovations to create a new type of home that is energy-efficient, resilient to climate change, and more liveable day to day.

As you now know, we specialize in concrete ICF homes. They are high efficiency, healthier, sustainable, and safer homes. They can be designed in any style or size.

A few major components, which I also like to specify in these homes, besides the ICF walls are SIP roof (no roof rafters), metal stud interior walls, and floors (factory-made, delivered, and set up in a few days per floor.) in-floor radiant heat AND cooling and triple-pane European doors and windows (cost less than a double-pane standard window).

These homes cost the same, and now with increased lumber costs, are less than conventional wood construction at a significantly higher quality; Storm, Fire, Mold, Rot, Mildew, and termite-proof all while saving 50 – 75% on utility and insurance costs.

My office is in Fairfield, located in my new ICF home.  If you would like to meet at the Fairfield home to see the above components, please let me know.

I look forward to answering your questions and leading you in the right direction.

We hope that more homeowners and contractors will join us in transforming residential construction with their own versions of The Next Great American Home.

Innovations

The Next Great American Home is inspired by the innovation needed for a changing world.

We began with a building process called Insulated Concrete Forms, or ICF. ICF is better than a traditional stick-built house in many ways. Along with cutting energy bills by up to 70%, the regulated and filtered indoor air flow make it healthier, and the concrete walls make it stronger and much quieter.

We also take full advantage of solar power, the latest technology for air and water purification and construction design that allows a building to withstand rising water levels and more intense storms

Why

Architect Leigh Overland’s idea was to make the construction of his own home a true team-building project. While acting as the architect on ABC Television’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” for a home in Bridgeport, he recognized the concept as a fast-paced, fun and successful method that not only resulted in a home but also proved to be a good way to connect with and educate the public.

The Next Great American Homes brings together builders, designers, manufacturers and many other consultants to join in projects to provide homes and to spread the word about homebuilding best practices.

Latest Project

The Ash Creek home is located in Fairfield, Connecticut, on a piece of property that would be unbuildable without the techniques that Architect Leigh Overland is employing.

His home will be modern and light-filled and also use solar power to the maximum, with a first floor elevated above the flood plain to withstand the most dangerous storms.

The strength imparted by Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction will allow it to stand through the highest winds.

Even the foundation, utilizing Helical anchors, binds the house more tightly to the land.
